4/10/2023 0 Comments History of siwesThe Unit was upgraded to the status of a Centre in 1996 to serve the whole University as students from more faculties were admitted into the industrial training scheme. It was later relocated to a flat in the Faculty of Technology Annex on Gongola Street in 1987 and finally to the present location in 1989. The unit took off in 1972 in the former prefab building in the Faculty of Technology (now seminar rooms in the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering building. This is the equivalent of Cooperative Education in the United States of America or Sandwich programme in the United Kingdom. The industrial training programme is normally called Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). It was established to administer, manage and coordinate the industrial training programme of students. The Industrial Training Coordinating Centre (ITCC) of University of Ibadan started as a unit (Industrial Coordination Unit) in the faculty of Technology in 1972.
